Thank god the college loans are finally paid off…

Hi Jamoker
I’m from California, and I’m contemplating moving
to Texas, mostly for cost-of-living reasons.
I have some misgivings about this possible move, mostly
to do with the expected differences between our highly-liberal mentality in California, and Texas’ reputation for being a highly conservative state..
Any pointers, URL’s, blogs, etc. thay you may be able to point me to?
Best regards,
Luis

Luis,
I am a Native Texan and highly liberal as well (we do exist). I grew up in the Dallas area, which is probably one of the less conservative areas of the state. If you have a choice of cities, go to Austin. You will be quite comfortable there. Smaller towns, especially in West Texas are going to be very conservative with the possible exceptions of Alpine, where I live, and further south in Terlingua. To live in Terlingua requires a certain kind of personality and I would do a lot of research before moving there.
Alpine is beautiful and has a great climate due to it’s elevation. It tries so hard to be progressive, but this is cowboy country and I have had to tone it down to some degree since moving here in order to fit in. Good luck. I do love Texas with all it’s flaws.
