I was driving down the highway today when I wondered, “why aren’t the flags at half-mast?” I was reminded of the situation immediately after 9/11. People bought so many flags and flag decals, that most stores ran out of their annual supply in just a few days. And, I don’t mean to discount that sentiment after 9/11. It was justified. So why, however, is not the same situation happening this time?

Well, I googled presidential proclamations this afternoon and found something out. Today, September 4th, there were two proclamations made. One was for the passing of Chief Justice Rehnquist. The other was for the victims of the hurricane. I find it very interesting and odd that these would both be dated today.
