Backstory:

The LilOnes have an uncle with a Labrador Retreiver. The uncle and his dog were here back at Christmas. The dog is named Pearl. He got the dog when he lived in Hawaii. And, he (the uncle) is pretty cool.

LilOne#2 loves dogs and would call to Pearl all the time during the visit. However, she didn't say Pearl like normal people would say it. Instead, she'd say it like "Per-roll"…with a strong accent on the second syllable. It sounded hilarious, trust me.

Fast forward four months:

LilOne#1 is busily learning how to spell and read and has started to pick up how letters work in words. Nearly every conversation she has with an adult involves questions or comments about spelling or reading. It's exciting to see the little mind work.

The two LilOnes are having a conversation the other day about stuff and things and whatever youngsters discuss when they operate in their own world. The topic of the dog comes up. LilOne#2 says "Pearl" in her usual and distinctive fashion. LilOne#1 questions her about it.

LilOne#1 – Why do say Pearl that way?
LilOne#2 – What?
LilOne#1 – Why do say Pearl that way?
LilOne#2 – Per-roll
LilOne#1 – It's Pearl
LilOne#2 – That's what I said. Per-roll
LilOne#1 – Pearl
LilOne#2 – What?
LilOne#1 – It sounds like there's a W in there.
LilOne#2 – Per-roll

It's like an Abbot and Costello routine around here…
