In 1991, I planted two pumpkin hills in the raised bed vegetable garden of my small city lot. My kids were so excited. I did not want them to be disappointed, so I did a lot of reading about growing pumpkins. I learned that I could pollinate the flowers myself, using a paintbrush to tickle the naughty-bits of all those sexy pumpkin flowers. It was kind of fun, and, you know, kind of exciting — okay, it was the sexiest experience of my entire life! And guess what?
I gave birth to SIX pumpkins!!! And three of them were orange in time for Halloween!!!
If I have to arm myself with a million paintbrushes to ensure the 2008 vintage, damn straight that’s what I’m going to do.
Because I don’t like no stinkin’ Guinness!

I’ve switched over to drinking Guiness again too. Yum.
I had 28 pumpkins this year and there are still 5 – 10 more on the vine for cooking.
